Tunisian FA dismiss U-17 coaching staff despite AFCON qualification

The Tunisian Football Federation has decided to dismiss the technical staff of the Tunisia U-17 national team, led by head coach Nageh Altomy, following the team’s results in the UNAF (North African) U-17 qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Tunisia finished fourth in the UNAF tournament standings, which concluded as follows:

  • 1- Morocco – 12 points
  • 2- Algeria – 7 points
  • 3- Egypt – 6 points
  • 4- Tunisia – 4 points
  • 5- Libya – 0 points

Despite only the top three teams normally qualifying for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, Tunisia secured a spot in the tournament due to Morocco hosting the competition, which granted an additional qualification place to the fourth-placed team.

During the tournament, Tunisia recorded one win against Libya, a draw with Algeria, and suffered defeats to both Egypt and Morocco.

However, despite confirming qualification, the Tunisian FA opted to part ways with the coaching staff in a bid to appoint a new technical team ahead of the upcoming AFCON U-17 tournament in Morocco, aiming for improvement on the continental stage.
