Kenyan Premier League outfit Tusker FC goalkeeper Brandon Obiero has set himself lofty ambitions for the rest of the campaign.
The goalkeeper was handed an opportunity against Mara Sugar, keeping a clean sheet, and extended it into Friday’s duel against Ulinzi Stars where he once again ensured a clean sheet in a 1-0 win in Murang’a.
“My target at the start of the season as to keep 13 cleansheets and if I attain that, then I will be among the top keepers in the league.
“This means that I have to work hard to play more. I am thankful to have played back to back matches and this gives me encouragement especially with the two cleansheets,” Obiero told Tusker official website.
He added; “As a team we want to win each match as it comes and be crowned champions at the end of the season. We need to keep working because nothing comes easy. As a player in a team, you will always need to be ready because eventually, an opportunity will come and you have to be ready to take it. It is now up to me to work and prove myself.
“Competition in the team is high and healthy and we push each other to perform well. We have a very strong goalkeeping department with Ochuka (Joseph) who is very experienced as well as Opondo (Brian) who has been with the national team and trained with some of the best in the country.
“We always share our experiences and at the end of the day we back whoever is picked to start.”
Meanwhile, coach Charles Okere praised the team’s tenacity and resilience, following a hard fought 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars at the SportPesa Arena in Murang’a on Friday.
“It is a positive and great feeling to secure these three points and with a clean sheet. It is great starting off December with a win and it signals good things to come. The victory also sets our morale high,” said Okere.
Obiero will hope to keep his starting role when Tusker entertain Sofapaka at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Saturday.
