Tusker drop points against Shabana, Gor Mahia defeat KCB

Kenyan Premier League outfit Tusker FC remained winless in the top-flight after coming from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw against visiting Shabana FC at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.

The Brewers went into the game winless from their opening three matches. They had kicked off their campaign with a shocking 2-0 defeat against KCB, then suffered a 2-1 defeat against Posta Rangers before picking their first point of the season in 0-0 draw against Mathare United.

Against Shabana, who are currently unbeaten in the top-flight, Tusker found themselves trailing in the 19th minute when Austin Odongo pounced on a rebound to find the back of the net from close range. New signing Ian Simiyu came off the bench to rescue a point for Tusker in the 77th minute.

The forward joined the Brewers midway through last season from second tier side Nzoia Sugar, where he was the top scorer, but took a while to get his footing.

Just less than five minutes after coming on, Simiyu banged in the equaliser, pickpocketing Mark Okolla off the ball before slotting well past the keeper. It was a goal long coming, with Tusker having camped in Shabana’s half.

Tusker had some good chances in the second half with Issa Lumumba and Dennis Iguma both having shots fly out wide, while Omolle had two precise deliveries low into the box roll across the face of goal begging for a touch.

Gor Mahia edge out KCB in closely fought fixture

In another match, record champions Gor Mahia registered back-to-back wins in the league after downing KCB 1-0 at Dandora Stadium.

Meanwhile, at Kericho Green Stadium, defending champions Kenya Police FC secured a 1-0 win against promoted side APS Bomet, while Kariobangi Sharks registered a 2-1 win against Mathare United. Elsewhere at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, visitors Mara Sugar collected their first win of the season after upsetting the hosts 2-1.
