Kenyan Premier League club Tusker FC have continued with their transfer business after securing the services of midfielder Issa Lumumba on a one-year contract from Ulinzi Stars.
A statement from the club confirmed: “In a bid to add more strength to midfield and bolster the squad for the new season, Tusker has snapped up midfielder Issa Lumumba who joins on a one-year contract from military side Ulinzi Stars.
“Lumumba joins an already strong department, adding more depth and steel to the squad ahead of the new campaign. Lumumba, who has been a consistent performer for the soldiers, is expected to bring both energy and creativity into the Tusker engine room.”
Speaking after signing for the 13-time Kenyan champions, Lumumba said: “I am very happy to be here and ready to give my best. I want to help the team achieve its goals and also grow as a player. This is a club with a lot of demands and a club which regularly competes for the title and for any player, you want to be in such an environment.
“There is a lot of competition in my position and that is something that really excites me because I will grow both as a player and a person, and these guys will get the best out of me.”
Tusker coach Charles Okere explained the decision to sign Lumumba by saying: “Issa is a player who will bring a lot into the team. His experience in the league and his ability to control the midfield will be very valuable for us as we head into the season. He compliments a lot into what we have and this gives us as coaches options to work with.”
By signing for Tusker, Lumumba will link up with former Ulinzi Stars teammate, and winger Yakeen Muteheli, who had joined early on just before the start of pre-season.
