U-17 AFCON Qualifying – WAFU-B Zone: Matchday 1 recap

The WAFU-B U-17 tournament kicked off in Yamoussoukro on September 20. As the qualifying competition for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (U-17 AFCON) heads into Matchday 2, here is a recap of the opening round, which saw mixed results for the participating teams.

In Group A, host nation Côte d’Ivoire, runners-up of the last edition in Ghana, started strong with a 2-0 victory over Niger. The other fixture ended in a 1-1 draw between Togo and Ghana.

In Group B, made up of only three teams, Nigeria had a rest day. Burkina Faso took the lead in the standings by defeating Benin 1-0.
