U-17 World Cup: Burkina Faso shock Germany

Burkina Faso advanced to the Round of 16 on Saturday at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar with a massive 1-0 victory over Germany.

Mohamed Zongo’s curled finish in the 5th minute was all the West African nation needed to send the German team home. Zongo now has goal contributions in the last three matches, with two goals and two assists.

Germany controlled possession but failed to failed to pounce against an opportunistic Burkinabe side, who will now face Uganda on Tuesday in the Round of 16 after the Cubs upset Senegal to advance earlier on Saturday.

In the final match on Saturday involving an African team, Tunisia fell to a 0-2 defeat against a strong Austria side. After managing to hold their opposition in the first half, it all fell apart for Tunisia under increasing pressure from the European representatives, who found two late goals in quick succession to advance.
