Burkina Faso are back in contention at the 2025 U-17 World Cup in Qatar after impressing with a 2-1 victory over Czech Republic in their second group stage match on Saturday while Uganda enjoyed a historic moment with the nation’s first-ever point at a FIFA tournament.
Star attacker Ashraf Tapsoba headed Burkina Faso to victory early in the second half to boost the Young Stallions after an unlucky defeat to the United States in their opening match from Group I. It was a massive result for the West African side who were forced to do plenty of defending in the first half.
However, similarly to the way they lost to the USA, this time it was the African representatives who utilized their opportunities well. Mohamed Zongo’s fierce long range strike put the Burkinabe side up before a quick response from the Czechs before the half hour mark.

After Tapsoba’s header from a Zongo corner kick, the defense turned in a focused second half performance to secure victory. They will look to qualify for the Round of 32 with a favorable result against Tajikistan to finish off Group I play on Tuesday.
Following a heartbreaking loss to Canada, Uganda earned their first point at a FIFA tournament with a 1-1 result against Chile in Group K.

Derrick Ssozi’s goal in second half stoppage time salvaged a point for the Cubs, who kept their hopes alive of qualifying for the knockout stages with the late equalizer. After a mostly uneventful first half that saw the Chilean team open the scoring in stoppage time, East Africa’s only representative at the tournament pushed hard and were rewarded when Ssozi bundled in from a corner kick.
However, Uganda will now have to defeat France in their final Group I match on Tuesday to have a chance of advancing to the Round of 32.
Finally, Mali suffered a difficult 0-3 defeat to Austria in Group L. After a 3-0 victory in their opening match,ย Les Aiglonettesย remain in strong contention to advance from a rather weak group and will be optimistic they can claim at least a point in their final match against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
