Ghana U-20 head coach Desmond Ofei has received the backing of ex-Ghana international Augustine Arhinful despite Ghana's failure to reach the semifinals at the ongoing youth tournament in Egypt.
The Black Satellites were eliminated by hosts Egypt in the quarter finals through a 5-4 penalty shootouts loss after the 120 minutes ended 2-2 at the Suez Stadium.
With Ghanaians calling for the head of the coach after the failure to reach the semifinals, Arhinful believes the Black Stars assistant trainer must be given the chance to do better in future.
"Everybody wants Desmond Ofei to succeed," he told Asempa FM.
"He has started well and I have met him a couple of times at the Black Stars camp, but I believe he will get the time to rewrite the wrongs.
"I have not had time to engage him personally, but let's hope that he stays right with his work and does the right things.”
The last time the Black Satellites featured at the U-20 World Cup was in 2015.
Ghana’s journey to the quarterfinals started on a slow note when they came from a goal down to draw 1-1 against DR Congo at the Suez Canal Stadium.
The 2009 FIFA World Cup winners recovered strongly to beat defending champions Senegal and Central African Republic by 1-0 in the second and third games respectively before crushing out against Egypt. The Black Satellites will also be missing at the 2025 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Chile later this year.
