Speaking to the media ahead of Friday’s clash, McCarthy expressed confidence ahead of the game. “We expect a very competitive game, but we are ready. Our preparations have been good, and the team is highly motivated. This is a strong group, and our first game is crucial [and] we’re looking forward to it with great anticipation.

“We respect Congo, but we will give our best. It’s all about going into the game with the right mentality and how we approach the game,” he said.

“Our goal is to qualify from the group stage and take it step by step from there. We know what this tournament means to Ghana and to us as young players. We are focused and ready to deliver.”
