Ghana winger Abdul Sulemana expressed his disappointment on Monday after Ghana's elimination from the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations at the quarterfinal stage.

The Black Satellites came from 2-0 down to hold hosts Egypt to a 2-2 draw in full time at the Suez Canal Stadium on Monday. After extra time, the 2009 U-20 AFCON winners suffered a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to exit the competition and miss out on a ticket to the next FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Sulemana, who joined the fray in the second half, shared some words after being adjudged Man of the Match.

“I think we came all out. It’s always hard when you are 2-0 down and then coming up. We gave all our hearts and that’s where we wanted to get the win but unfortunately we didn’t have luck on our side, we tried our best, that’s what matters,” Sulemana said.

“The aim was to qualify for the World Cup and after qualifying we get to win the trophy but unfortunately, of course we are not happy, we are out at the quarterfinals. We are not happy at all.."

Ghana’s journey to the quarterfinals saw them draw 1-1 against DR Congo in the opener before beating defending champions Senegal and Central African Republic by a 1-0 margin in the second and final Group C games respectively.

The quarterfinal elimination is a big blow to the West African nation who won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2009.
