Ghana U-20 striker Jerry Afriyie has expressed joy over his return to the squad ahead of their next fixture against hosts Egypt.
The 18-year-old missed Ghana's final Group C game against Central African Republic in the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament but is likely to make a quarter final appearance against Egypt on Monday May 12.
Afriyie made a return to his club side, CD Lugo, last weekend and scored in their 2-2 draw against Gimnastic. Speaking after his return to the squad, Afriyie expressed his satisfaction but cautioned that they must win against the host country to make the fans and the country happy.
“It feels good to be back," Afriyie said as reported by the Ghana FA website. "The job isn’t done, and we all know what this next game means to us, to our fans, and to our country," he added.
Speaking ahead of their quarterfinal clash at the New Suez Stadium, head coach of the Black Satellites, Desmond Ofei praised the return of the promising striker to the set-up.
“Jerry is a key part of our attacking setup," Ofei told the Ghana FA website.
"We understand the importance of his club commitments, and we’re thankful to CD Lugo for their understanding and collaboration.
"His return gives us a boost at just the right time," he added.
A win for Ghana will see them book a place in the semifinal, which will also mean they have qualified for the U-20 World Cup to be hosted in Chile later this year.
