Morocco captain Hossam Essadak has reacted to their slim victory against Egypt which effectively sent them into the finals of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Morocco nailed the hosts, Egypt by 1-0 in the semi finals on Thursday to set up the final stage against South Africa who beat Nigeria by 1-0 in the other semifinal game.
Essadak says their aim is to win the tournament after booking the final spot: “We came with two goals: the first is to reach the World Cup in Chile, and we succeeded in this mission without any difficulties, while the ultimate goal is to return to Morocco with the title,” he said after their win against Egypt on Thursday.
“This was the request of the president of the Football Association, as well as the goal of the Moroccan fans and our shared goal with them, and we are one step away from that.
“We see this cup as very close to us. Our journey, our records, and our development from one match to the next give us confidence and optimism to be the most deserving winners of the cup,” he added.
The North African country has secured a place in the upcoming U-20 World Cup, which will be hosted in Chile later this year. Egypt, South Africa and Nigeria have equally booked their spots for the mundial later this year.
Essadak was named the player of the match against Egypt.
