Ghana under-20 national team head coach Desmond Offei has revealed the scouting strategy that will help build a formidable team for major assignments.
The Black Satellites have resumed preparations for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and the need to put up a well rounded and winning team is key.
The team secured their place in the tournament after finishing second in the WAFU Zone B Championship against Nigeria in Togo last year.
In an interview with 3Sports, Offei stated the importance of spreading the scouting net a bit wider to select the right players from the various divisions.
"To build a competitive and well-rounded U20 National Team, it is essential to cast a wide scouting net that encompasses domestic leagues, regional competitions, and international talent pools.
“Our strategy outlines a comprehensive plan to identify and invite top talent for observation," Offei stated.
“We will broaden the scouting base to track young players globally, ensuring that we identify the best talents capable of excelling at the continental and international levels,” Offei explained.
"By utilizing this multi-faceted approach, we can ensure that the U20 national team is well-equipped with the best available talent, both domestically and abroad, to compete at the highest level," he concluded.
Offei is bent on scouting players from the Ghana Premier League, Division One League, and the regional leagues to help augment those who performed during the qualifiers.
The other players from the squad that claimed gold at the African Games will have the second chance of reassessment with diasporans having the chance for places in the squad to form a balance.
Ghana failed to qualify for the previous edition of the U20 AFCON with coach Offei aiming to right the wrongs this time.
The Black Satellites aim to replicate their 2021 U-20 AFCON glory in Mauritania and qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the first time since 2015.
