The Falconets of Nigeria have qualified for the final qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after defeating the Lionesses of Senegal 2-1 (3-1 on aggregate) in their third-round, second-leg clash in Diamniadio on Saturday.
The match, played at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium, saw both teams adopt an attacking approach. Senegal needed a decisive victory to stand a chance of advancing after losing 1-0 to Nigeria in the first leg in Abeokuta.
However, it was Moses Aduku’s side that struck the first blow in the 19th minute as a well-placed corner kick found Kindness Ifeanyi, who once again broke the deadlock to give Nigeria a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with Nigeria doubling their advantage in the 68th minute when Precious Oscar found the back of the net via another set-piece corner.
Senegal eventually pulled one back through a thunderbolt of a strike by Adoo Yina, but it was too little, too late to overturn the aggregate deficit.
