The Flying Eagles defeated Saudi Arabia 3-2 in a thrilling contest. Nasiru Salihu, Amos Ochoche and captain Daniel Bameyi were on target for Nigeria in the game. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia scored through Amar Al Yuhaybi and Halal Hajj.
Zubairu, who was quoted by FIFA.com, lauded his players’ great determination to earn the win.
“The players made up their minds that they had to go all out for the three points here, and that is what motivated them. Now it’s simple: we have to go all out for the three points against Colombia. It’s as simple as that.”
The Flying Eagles bounced back from their defeat to Norway in the first game.
The victory means that the two-time World Cup finalists still stand a chance to qualify for the Round of 16 if they get a victory against Colombia on Monday. Even if they do not win, Nigeria can also still qualify as one of the best third placed teams with four third place teams from the six groups also advancing to the knockout stages.
