Nigeria U-20 men national team head coach Aliyu Zubairu says that the Flying Eagles are not worried about who they will face in the next round of the 2025 FIFA U20 men’s World Cup.
The West Africans held Colombia to a 1-1 draw in their last Group F match at the Estadio Único Diego Maradona on Monday to secure a place in the Round of 16. Kener Gonzalez gave Colombia the lead six minutes after the break.
Meanwhile Captain Daniel Bameyi, again for the second time in the tournament gave the Flying Eagles hope as he restored parity for Nigeria in the 86th minute.
Zubairu while being quoted by FIFA.com said it an easy game but the target for his team was to earn a place in the knockout round.
“It wasn’t easy but we stood our ground and were proactive. We knew they were physically strong and good on the ball so we tried to deny them passing lanes and that gave us a little edge.
“All we wanted was to qualify for the next round and we are not worried about who we have to face.”
The draw saw the Flying Eagles finish third in Group F, accumulating four points from their three matches.
Coach Zubairu’s side will now turn their attention to Argentina who they will lock horns with in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago, Chile.
