U-20 World Cup: Morocco duo Maamma and Yassir Zabiri clinch Golden prizes

After Morocco U-20 national team made history by clinching their first-ever FIFA U-20 World Cup title, two players Othmane Maamma and Yassir Zabiri were honoured for exemplary performances during the tournament in Chile.

The Young Atlas Lions secured their maiden trophy in the category after defeating tournament favorites Argentina 2-0 in a final held at the Julio Martínez Prádanos Stadium. The hero of the night was Yassir Zabiri, Morocco’s rising star, who scored both goals in the first half to seal a monumental victory for the North African nation.

Zabiri opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a magnificent free-kick, curling the ball beautifully into the top right corner. He doubled Morocco’s lead in the 29th minute after a run down the right flank by Maâma, whose precise cross was met first-time by Zabiri for a finish that made it 2-0.

Maamma rewarded with adidas Golden Ball

After the final, FIFA confirmed on their official website that, Maamma, who had a magnificent performance throughout the FIFA U-20 World Cup, was rewarded with the adidas Golden Ball.

“The Morocco magician emulated the likes of Diego Maradona, Robert Prosinecki, Lionel Messi Sergio Aguero and Paul Pogba in pocketing the prize,” read part of the statement published on FIFA.com.

Meanwhile, Zabiri, who got both goals as Morocco won the final 2-0, and Argentina’s Milton Delgado received the adidas Silver Ball and adidas Bronze Ball respectively.
