U-20 WWC (Q): Aduku insists job not done despite Falconets’ win over Senegal

Moses Aduku, head coach of Nigeria’s Falconets, has warned that qualification for the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup is far from guaranteed, despite his side’s 1-0 victory over Senegal on Saturday.

The third-round, first-leg qualifier, held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, was decided by substitute Kindness Ifeanyi, who came off the bench to net the crucial goal for the hosts.

Addressing the media after the final whistle, Aduku emphasized that Nigeria must adopt an aggressive approach in the return leg, citing the tactical threat posed by the Young Female Teranga Lions.

“We will now settle down and prepare for the second leg. It is vital that we double our efforts for the return fixture,” Aduku stated. “We are not going there to sit back and defend—that would be dangerous. Our objective is to score first and build on that momentum.”

Aduku Speaks On Win Over Senegal

While the Falconets hold the aggregate lead, Aduku was quick to credit the Senegalese side for their doggedness.

“Senegal fought well, but we know we have the quality to overcome them. It will be the same battle in the second leg,” he added.

The Falconets gaffer also praised his team’s resilience, expressing relief at taking a lead to Dakar after a grueling encounter.

“It was a tough match for us, but the positive is that we have the advantage. I must commend my players because they fought hard to secure this win.”

The Road Ahead The Falconets only need a draw in the reverse fixture to progress to the final round of qualification. The crucial second leg is scheduled to take place in Dakar on Saturday, February 14.
