Ugandan international forward Calvin Kabuye has completed a loan switch to Swedish second division side Varbergs BoIS from top-tier club Mjällby AIF.
The 22-year-old attacker joins Varbergs BoIS on a short-term deal that runs until the close of the current season in November. His arrival is seen as a key boost in the club’s push for promotion back to the top-flight.
Varbergs BoIS are currently in a strong position, sitting fourth on the table with 25 points after 14 games, trailing table leaders Kalmar FF. Kabuye’s addition adds firepower to a side chasing a return to the elite division.
Kabuye moved to Mjällby AIF in February from Sandvikens, another second-tier side, and has featured five times for the club in the 2024/25 campaign. Prior to that, he enjoyed a productive spell at Sandvikens, registering 10 goals and an assist in 30 appearances.
That form followed an earlier stint at Östersunds FK in 2023, where he managed four goals and three assists across 29 matches, showing steady development in the Swedish football system.
On the international stage, Kabuye finally earned his senior debut for the Uganda Cranes in a crucial fixture against Congo Brazzaville, a match that saw Uganda secure qualification to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations set to be held in Morocco.
