Uganda Cranes skipper Aucho nears Yanga exit amid Vietnam interest

Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho is set to part ways with Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC in the ongoing transfer window, bringing an end to a successful stint with the club.

Aucho had been in discussions with the Yanga hierarchy over a contract renewal, but both parties failed to reach an agreement. While the club was willing to extend his stay for just one more year, the seasoned midfielder was keen on a two-year deal—an impasse that ultimately led to the decision to move on.

Sources close to the player have confirmed to Swift Sports Uganda that Aucho’s departure is largely due to the breakdown in negotiations over the contract length. It is understood that the Ugandan international is already attracting interest from clubs in Vietnam, where a fresh challenge now appears likely.

The combative midfielder initially joined Young Africans from Egyptian outfit Misr El Makassa on a two-year deal, which was later extended by one more year in 2023. During his time at the club, Aucho played a pivotal role in Yanga’s dominance on the domestic front.

He leaves behind a decorated legacy, having won four Tanzanian Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and three Community Shields with the Jangwani-based side. Aucho was also instrumental in guiding Yanga to the final of the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup, where they narrowly lost to Algeria’s USM Alger.

As he prepares for the next chapter of his career, all signs point to a move abroad—with Vietnam emerging as a potential destination for the Cranes’ inspirational skipper.
