Uganda Cup: Dominant Kitara, ruthless Vipers book quarterfinal spots

Kitara FC delivered a ruthless display at Royals Park in Butema, dismantling Bunyaruguru United 6-0 to book their place in the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinals with authority.

The hosts wasted no time asserting control, with Gaddafi Wahab striking as early as the sixth minute to set the tone.

Jimmy Kalema, making his long-awaited return from a two-month injury spell, marked the occasion in style by doubling the lead. Samuel Kato Nemeyimana then added a third before the break, capping a dominant first-half performance that left the visitors with little room to respond.
After the restart, Kitara maintained their intensity.

Benjamin Nyakoojo rose highest to nod home the fourth, before Living Kabon and George Senkaaba wrapped up the emphatic victory with two more goals, sealing a resounding 6-0 triumph and underlining Kitara’s growing threat in the competition.

Elsewhere, Vipers SC also progressed in convincing fashion, easing past Iganga United 4-0 under the floodlights at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Defender Hilary Mukundane opened the scoring early, heading in from a Yunus Sentamu corner inside eight minutes.

Despite creating several chances, the Venoms had to wait until late in the second half to extend their advantage.

Substitute Gusto Mulongo made an instant impact, finishing neatly in the 83rd minute before adding another just two minutes later to put the game beyond reach.

Mukundane returned to complete his brace in stoppage time, putting the final gloss on a commanding performance.

The results see both Kitara FC and Vipers SC join KCCA FC, NEC FC, and Happy Boys Kagaba in the quarterfinal lineup, as the race for the Uganda Cup intensifies.
