Uganda Cup: KCCA FC cruise into quarter-finals with emphatic victory

KCCA FC delivered a commanding performance under the floodlights at MTN Omondi Stadium on Tuesday night, brushing aside Onduparaka FC 5-0 to storm into the quarter-finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

The Kasasiro Boys asserted their dominance early in the Round of 16 tie, controlling possession and dictating the tempo from kickoff.

Despite a bright opening from Onduparaka, it was KCCA who carved out the first real opportunity in the 18th minute.

Saidi Mayanja combined well with Alex Yiga, whose dangerous delivery into the box was calmly dealt with by Onduparaka goalkeeper Muhammad Nadhir.

KCCA’s pressure soon paid off. In the 22nd minute, Sammy Ssebaduka opened the scoring with a composed finish, tapping home from close range after a well-worked move initiated by the lively Mayanja.

Just minutes later, Mayanja continued to pull the strings. His corner delivery in the 24th minute found Muhamud, whose powerful half-volley forced a sharp save from the Onduparaka goalkeeper, keeping the scoreline respectable at that point.

However, the hosts doubled their lead in the 30th minute through none other than Mayanja himself. Rising highest in the box, he nodded home from close range after a brilliant sequence that saw Filbert Obenchan find Ivan Ahimbisibwe, who provided the assist.

KCCA remained in control for the rest of the first half, with neat interplay between Alex Yiga and Brian Jjara nearly producing a third goal, but Yiga’s effort drifted wide as the hosts went into the break comfortably leading 2-0.

After the restart, KCCA maintained their attacking intent. Lazaro Muhindo delivered a pinpoint cross in the 60th minute, but Yiga’s header narrowly missed the target. Moments later, Muhindo found himself in the referee’s book following a foul on Onduparaka’s Kedi.

The turning point of the second half came in the 66th minute when KCCA made a quadruple substitution, introducing fresh legs in Lutalo, Mugisha, Emmanuel Anyama, and Axel Mezui. The changes had an immediate impact.

Just three minutes later, substitute Emmanuel Anyama announced himself in style, scoring with his very first touch to make it 3-0, courtesy of a well-weighted assist from Muhindo.

KCCA continued to pile on the pressure. Anyama was brought down in the 72nd minute, earning a free kick in a promising position. Axel Mezui stepped up, but his effort was pushed away by the Onduparaka goalkeeper.

Further changes followed as Kennedy Muserero came on for Herbert Achayi, with KCCA showing no signs of slowing down.

In the closing stages, the hosts turned their dominance into a rout. Anyama struck again deep into added time, completing his brace after connecting with Mezui’s free kick delivery to seal an emphatic 5-0 victory.

The result sees KCCA FC join NEC FC and the “Happy Boys” in the quarter-finals, sending a strong message to their rivals as they continue their pursuit of domestic cup glory.
