Uganda Cup: Northern assignments for URA FC and champions Vipers

URA FC have discovered their path in the 52nd edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after being handed a tricky trip to face Patongo United FC in the Round of 64.

The Tax Collectors will travel north in what promises to be an early examination of their ambitions in Uganda’s most prestigious knockout competition.

The draw was conducted on Wednesday at the Protea Hotel in Kampala, with former KCCA FC and Express FC midfielder Sheikh Umar Ssenoga officiating the ceremony. It marked another important milestone in a competition that officially kicked off in November 2025, following preliminary rounds staged across the various FUFA regions.

This year’s tournament has once again underlined its growing stature, attracting a massive 333 teams — an increase from the previous edition — highlighting the continued rise in interest and participation countrywide.

Vipers SC will travel to Northern Gateway FC

For URA FC, the tie against Patongo United FC presents both opportunity and danger. Cup history is rich with tales of giant killings, and the Tax Collectors will be keen to approach the northern trip with focus and professionalism as they seek a deep run in the competition.

Elsewhere, defending champions Vipers SC will travel to Northern Gateway FC, while last season’s finalists KCCA FC face an away test at St. George Masindi FC.

Express FC have been paired with Pakwach Young Stars, SC Villa will take on Pallisa Hospital FC, and non-league outfit Football Classroom will host Uganda Premier League side Calvary FC.

The Round of 64 fixtures will be played between 4th and 10th February.

Historically, KCCA FC and Express FC remain the joint most successful clubs in the competition with 10 titles each, while SC Villa have lifted the trophy nine times.

Last season, Vipers SC beat KCCA FC 2-0 in the first ever match played under the lights at FUFA Kadiba Stadium on their way to the title.
