‘Uganda dream is to qualify for the U17 World Cup" – Brian Ssenyondo

Uganda Cubs head coach Brian Ssenyondo has set an ambitious target for his team following the AFCON U17 CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers draw.


Speaking after the draw held at the FUFA Complex in Mengo, Ssenyondo expressed his team’s ultimate goal: "Our dream is to qualify for the U17 World Cup, which can only be achieved through victories in CECAFA and AFCON."


The Cubs were drawn in Group A alongside Tanzania, Ethiopia and Burundi. Group B features defending champions Somalia, South Sudan and Kenya. The tournament will run from December 14 to December 28 at Nakivubo Stadium and St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.


The top two teams from the tournament will advance to the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations bringing them closer to a potential World Cup berth. Preparations in Full Swing Under Ssenyondo and assistant coach Ronald Ssali, the Cubs are training intensively at the Njeru Technical Center.


The squad, which features both local and international talent, aims to capitalize on their home advantage to secure victories in the challenging group stage matches. Provisional Squad Highlights.


The squad boasts promising players like Elton Murungi (Latifah Mixed SS), goalkeeper Ashiraf Lukyamuzi (KCCA FC SA), and forward Shakur Lucky Baggio Magogo (Namilyango College).


England-based Austin Amani, from Harrogate Town Academy, adds an international dimension to the team. With Ssenyondo’s clear vision and the Cubs’ rigorous preparation, Uganda is determined to excel in the zonal qualifiers and take a step closer to making history at the U17 World Cup.
