A significant milestone for Ugandan football has been recorded as teenage talents James Bogere and Hamuza Ssengooba completed transfers to Danish Superliga frontrunners Aarhus Gymnastikforening (AGF).
The duo, graduates of the El Cambio Soccer Academy in Masaka, have been featuring for regional league outfit Masaka Sunshine FC and now take a monumental leap into European football.
El Cambio confirmed the move through their socials, celebrating the pair’s breakthrough moment.
“We can now reveal that Bogere James and Sengooba Hamza both have put their signatures to some incredible transfer in Europe. Aarhus Gymnastikforening football club, positioned first place in the Danish league, are to add the two players in the upcoming transfer window. We are proud of our boys and can’t wait to follow them in their careers,” the academy announced.
Both players were central figures in the Uganda Cubs squad that made history at the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar, where Uganda reached the knockout stages for the first time.
Bogere shone brightest on the global stage scoring crucial group-stage goals against Canada and France securing Uganda’s passage to the Round of 32, where they triumphed over Senegal before bowing out to Burkina Faso in the Round of 16.
Ssengooba, a dependable defender, also delivered a strong tournament, standing out with his composure and consistency at the back.
Bogere’s rapid rise continues as he is currently part of the Uganda Cranes squad preparing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, marking another career milestone.
Their new club, Aarhus Gymnastikforening, boasts a rich tradition spanning 145 years, decorated with five national championships, nine Danish Cup titles, and two Atlantic trophies.
AGF hosts its home matches at the 12,000-seater Vejlby Stadium, under the guidance of head coach Jakob Poulsen.
The transfers mark a new chapter for the young stars and a proud moment for Ugandan football development structures.
