Uganda Premier League: Police, Kitara, BUL and Maroons secure narrow wins

Police FC claimed a hard-fought 1–0 victory over SC Villa in a tightly contested Uganda Premier League encounter at the Kiira Road Police Arena in Kamwokya on Tuesday evening.

The decisive moment arrived just seven minutes after kick-off when Lawrence Tezikya struck early to hand the hosts the advantage. His goal ultimately proved enough to separate the two sides in a tense Match Day 20 clash.

Villa attempted to respond almost immediately. Jonah Kakande had their first clear sight at goal but fired wide, while Frank Ssebufu later thought he had levelled matters only for the assistant referee’s flag to rule the effort out for offside.

The disallowed goal added to the visitors’ frustrations, coming barely a day after FUFA referred assistant referee Immaculate Ongiera to the referees’ disciplinary panel over another controversial decision involving Villa in their previous match against Express FC.

Despite the setback, Villa kept pushing forward. Kakande was booked midway through the opening half, while Farouk Matovu came closest to restoring parity when his powerful header rattled the crossbar.

Police also had a moment where they believed they had doubled their lead. Bedia Ikamba found the back of the net, but the referee disallowed the goal for a foul in the build-up.

The hosts carried their slender 1–0 advantage into the halftime break.

After the restart, Villa intensified their search for an equaliser. The visitors introduced Missi Diego Semugera and Aslam Ssemakula to freshen up the attack, and Kakande again threatened but headed over the bar as pressure mounted on the Police defence.

Police responded with tactical changes of their own, including withdrawing goalscorer Tezikya as they focused on preserving the lead. The closing stages were dominated by Villa, but the hosts stood firm through a series of late attacks and stoppages, including treatment for goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga.

In the end, Police held on to secure an important three points that lift them to 35 points from 20 matches, leaving them just three points behind fourth-placed Villa.

Police will return to action on Friday, March 13 when they host NEC FC before the Uganda Cup break, while Villa travel to Entebbe to face UPPC FC the following day.

Kitara maintain Uganda Premier League title push

Elsewhere at the Rwamanja Stadium, Kitara FC registered a crucial 1–0 away win against Mbarara City FC.

Edson Agondeze scored the match’s only goal in the ninth minute, a strike that ultimately secured all three points for the visitors. Kitara managed the remainder of the contest well, making several tactical substitutions in the second half to protect their lead.

The result lifts Kitara to 43 points from 20 matches, moving them into second place and just one point behind leaders Vipers SC, who still have a game in hand. Mbarara City remain in 13th position on 15 points.

Narrow wins for BUL and Maroons

In other fixtures across the league, BUL FC picked up a 1–0 victory over Buhimba United Saints FC at Royal Park Butema thanks to a decisive strike from Karim Ndugwa.

Meanwhile, Maroons FC also secured a narrow 1–0 win against bottom-placed Calvary FC in Yumbe, with Ivan Asaba scoring the winning goal.

The results continue to tighten the battle across the table as the Uganda Premier League season heads toward its decisive stretch.
