Mbale Heroes, struggling at the bottom of the Uganda Premier League have confirmed the appointment of Baker Mbowa as their new head coach.
This development comes after the club officially parted ways with Asaph Mwebaze who had been suspended in December. Mwebaze had replaced Richard Malinga earlier in the season but the team’s performance failed to improve under his leadership.
Mbowa, who has been unemployed since his departure from Express FC following a defeat to Lugazi FC in October now takes over the reins. He becomes the fourth coach to manage Mbale Heroes this season following Malinga, Mwebaze, and interim coach Abu Mubarak Wamboya.
The team’s struggles have been glaring, finishing the first round of the season at the bottom of the league table with just nine points from 15 games, managing only two wins, three draws and ten losses.
Mbowa’s primary task will be to rescue the club from relegation and ensure their survival in the top flight. Mbale Heroes who only recently returned to the Premier League after nearly two decades in the lower leagues are determined to avoid an immediate drop back.
His immediate challenge will be to rebuild the team's morale and deliver results as the second round of the league kicks off.
