Uganda Premier League: Derby delight for Buhimba, frustration for KCCA FC

KCCA FC failed to capitalise on home advantage as they were held to a goalless draw by a determined Lugazi FC side under the lights at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession, KCCA found it difficult to unlock Lugazi’s compact defense. The visitors remained disciplined throughout, with midfielder Juma Mutebi putting in a standout performance that earned him the Man of the Match award.

The result leaves KCCA second on five points from three games, while Lugazi sit just a point behind in fourth, both sides level on matches played.

Earlier in the day, Buhimba United Saints claimed local bragging rights after edging Kitara FC 1-0 in the first-ever Hoima derby at Royal Park, Butema.

The decisive moment came nine minutes from full-time when Edison Agondeze latched onto a precise Maxwell assist to fire home the winner.

Agondeze, who had earlier been cautioned in the 65th minute, was later named Man of the Match for his vital contribution that sparked jubilant celebrations among the home supporters.

The victory maintained Buhimba’s perfect start to the season, keeping them top of the table with nine points from three matches, while Kitara languish in 12th place with just one point, though having played a game fewer.

Action continues on Friday as Mbarara City host BUL FC and URA FC welcome Express FC in what promises to be another thrilling round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
