Uganda Premier League: Mugulusi inspires BUL to the summit, Entebbe humble Lugazi

BUL FC ascended to the summit of the 16-team StarTimes Uganda Premier League table after edging Maroons 1-0 at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, on Wednesday.

The encounter was briefly interrupted in the 22nd minute due to heavy rainfall but once play resumed, the hosts settled in and grabbed the breakthrough fourteen minutes later. A swift counterattack led by Jerome Kirya picked out Martin Aprem, who teed up Ibrahim Mugulusi to calmly slot past the Maroons goalkeeper.

Mugulusi’s strike proved decisive and also earned him the Man of the Match accolade as BUL moved to four points from their opening two fixtures.

Maroons, on the other hand, remain winless following successive defeats.

Meanwhile in Bugonga, top-flight debutants Entebbe UPPC registered their first ever league victory after rallying from behind to stun Lugazi 2-1 at the Fisheries Play Ground.

Freedom Mungudit gave Lugazi the lead in the 24th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse, but Isa Bugembe restored parity midway through the second half, finishing neatly from a corner delivery.

With just seven minutes left, Fazil Tumwine struck the winner to ignite jubilant home celebrations.
The result condemned Lugazi to their first loss of the campaign, having won their opening match 3-1 against Calvary. Entebbe now sit fifth on three points, just behind Lugazi who remain ahead on goal difference.

Only two matches were played on Wednesday, with Matchday Two action continuing on Thursday featuring two more fixtures.
