Despite the excitement of a new campaign, concerns remain among several clubs over the new structure. Notably, SC Villa, Vipers SC, and KCCA FC have voiced protests against the adopted format, highlighting ongoing debate within the league.
The opening weekend promises thrilling action, with double-headers scheduled at single venues. On the opening day, URA FC will face KCCA FC at Hamz Stadium, followed by Express FC hosting Kitara FC at the same venue.
Saturday’s fixtures will see Mbarara City clash with Lugazi FC, while newly promoted Calvary FC take on UPDF FC. On the same day, SC Villa will begin their title push against BUL FC, and Buhimba United Saints will host Maroons FC.
Elsewhere, Police FC lock horns with Entebbe UPPC FC on September 27, rounding off a competitive opening weekend.
Reigning champions Vipers SC were scheduled to open against NEC FC, but their fixture has been rescheduled to a later date due to their involvement in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
The release of fixtures sets the stage for what promises to be another competitive UPL season, even as discussions around the new format continue to divide opinion among the league’s top clubs.
