Matchday 27 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League kicks off on Tuesday with five intriguing fixtures, headlined by a tense relegation six-pointer between Wakiso Giants and Mbarara City at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
Wakiso Giants, currently 14th with 20 points, must win to leapfrog their opponents and improve their chances of survival. A victory would also give them the edge over Mbarara City, head-to-head, after a goalless draw in the first round in Kakyeeka.
Mbarara City, who begin life without head coach Livingstone Mbabazi, sit just above the Purple Sharks in 13th place with 23 points and are desperate to avoid being dragged deeper into the relegation mix.
Meanwhile, Express FC host Kitara FC under the Nakivubo floodlights in a high-stakes clash for both sides. The Red Eagles are out to avenge the 7-0 thrashing they suffered in the reverse fixture, with pride and revenge fuelling their motivation.
On the other hand, Kitara, winless in their last four league outings, seek to complete a season double and reignite their title push. URA FC, winless in their past two matches, travel to Najjembe to take on Lugazi FC.
A win for the Tax Collectors will help solidify their position in the top four, while Lugazi, in 11th, need all three points to mathematically secure safety in their debut top-flight season. In Bombo, UPDF FC, safely mid-table with 33 points, host Soltilo Bright Stars.
The visitors, second-from-bottom on 16 points, are clinging to slim survival hopes and must win while also hoping Wakiso Giants don’t pick up maximum points. Elsewhere, Maroons FC welcome Police FC in a security derby at Luzira.
Maroons won the reverse fixture 2-1 at Kavumba and are eyeing a league double over their rivals.
Wednesday, May 7, fixtures: SC Villa vs KCCA FC – Wankulukuku, 4pm Vipers SC vs Mbale Heroes – Kitende, 7pm NEC FC vs BUL FC – Lugogo, 7pm.
