Uganda Premier League: Late blitz lights up Nakivubo as Express FC sink Police

Under the floodlights at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, Express FC produced a dramatic late surge to overcome Police FC 3-1 in their Uganda Premier League Matchday 22 encounter on Wednesday.

The contest appeared destined for a stalemate for long spells, but two late goals turned the tide in favor of the Red Eagles, sealing a deserved victory on the night.

Police FC had drawn first blood in the 30th minute through former Red Eagle Saidi Kyeyune, who unleashed a powerful long-range effort after being teed up by Charles Bbaale, capping off a well-worked move.

However, Express needed just two minutes to restore parity.

John Asiimwe whipped in a precise cross that found Yosia Kisa, whose emphatic header into the top corner brought the hosts level at 1-1 heading into the break.

After the restart, Express showed greater attacking intent and nearly took the lead when Kenneth Kimera was picked out by Asiimwe, but goalkeeper Edward Kasibante stood firm to deny him.

Police also had a moment of hope when Bedia Ikamba found the net, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.

With time running out, Express found their breakthrough in the 89th minute. A long delivery from defender Lubega unsettled the Police backline, and a misjudgment by Kasibante gifted substitute Henry Wamala a simple finish into an unguarded net.

Moments later, the hosts put the result beyond doubt. Deep into stoppage time, goalkeeper Khasim Hafizi launched a long ball forward, which Kimera chased down before outpacing the defenders and finishing clinically to make it 3-1.

The victory sees Express register back-to-back league wins with identical scorelines at Nakivubo, lifting them to 26 points while maintaining 10th place on the table.

Police FC, meanwhile, suffer consecutive defeats and remain on 35 points in sixth, with their position under threat depending on other results.

Express will next travel to Bombo to face UPDF FC on April 15, while Police FC head to Mbarara to take on Mbarara City a day later.
