Express FC secured an emphatic 4-1 victory over Wakiso Giants in the Uganda Premier League on Monday night at the Hamz Stadium, with forward Samuel Ssenyonjo stealing the show with a brilliant hat trick.
The match began with a moment of silence in memory of Vipers SC player Abubakar Lawal who passed away on February 24, 2025.
Express started brightly and took the lead in the 15th minute when Ssenyonjo converted a penalty after Richard Basangwa was fouled in the box by defender Ssemakula. The forward had a chance to double the lead seven minutes later but failed to capitalize from close range.
Wakiso Giants showed resilience and found an equalizer in the 65th minute through veteran winger Moses Oloya, who volleyed in a well-placed cross from Blanchar Mulamba. However, Express quickly regained control, restoring their lead five minutes later as Basangwa unleashed a powerful strike past the goalkeeper.
As the visitors pushed forward in search of another equalizer, Express punished their defensive lapses. Ssenyonjo struck again in the 89th minute before completing his hat trick in stoppage time, marking the first treble at the revamped Hamz Stadium.
The victory propelled Express to 28 points and sixth place on the table, while Wakiso Giants slumped to their ninth defeat in 18 matches, leaving them in deep relegation trouble.
