The Venoms confirmed their stance in a statement released on Thursday via their social media platforms announcing they would not honor their clash with Kitara FC. Their decision is rooted in protest against the newly introduced three-round league format—a structure they have consistently opposed alongside SC Villa and NEC FC.

Vipers’ Uganda Premier League rivals affirm their commitments

Earlier in the day, suspicions had already been raised when Vipers declined to appear at the pre-match press conference, while the other clubs turned up in full representation.

Their subsequent withdrawal has now intensified debate around the reforms and left Uganda Premier League organizers in a difficult position.

In contrast, SC Villa demonstrated commitment by showing up with head coach Kovacevic Zeljko and captain David Owori, both affirming the Jogoos’ readiness to battle rivals KCCA FC.

The Kasasiro Boys, represented by co-coach Brian Ssenyondo and skipper Charles Lukwago, also assured their supporters of thorough preparation.

Kitara FC, represented by assistant coach George William Lutalo, made it clear they were geared up to face Vipers before the champions opted out.

With the Venoms stepping aside, questions linger over how FUFA will address the situation and whether Saturday’s highly anticipated football carnival can proceed as planned.
