Vipers SC aim to tighten their grip on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League summit when they visit Maroons FC at the Prisons Grounds in Luzira on Thursday.
Having recently dispatched second-placed NEC 3-1 and edged SC Villa 1-0 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, John Ayala and Fred Muhumuza's charges enter the clash brimming with confidence.
The Venoms sit on 56 points after 24 matches and could move eight points clear at the top of the table, at least temporarily with NEC set to play on Friday. There could be returns for key players Alfred Mudekereza, Livingstone Mulondo and Siraje Sentamu, who were rested in the midweek cup victory.
Maroons, meanwhile, will be eager to bounce back after a stinging defeat to UPDF last time out. Currently sitting eighth with 34 points, a win could catapult them into fifth place, depending on other results.
Later, under the Nakivubo floodlights, Express FC will be eyeing a rare season double over army side UPDF in what promises to be a tense encounter. The Red Eagles triumphed 2-0 in the reverse fixture at Bombo, with goals from Conrad Ssenjogera and Sam Ssenyonjo proving decisive.
Both sides come into the match tied on 32 points, but Express sits ninth thanks to a superior head-to-head record.
