Vipers SC will be targeting a wider lead at the summit of the
Uganda Premier League when they travel to Kamwenge to face Mbarara City on Saturday afternoon.
The reigning champions currently sit top of the table with 41 points and could stretch their advantage to four if they collect maximum points, especially after second-placed Kitara were held by UPDF on Friday.
The Venoms head into the contest as clear favourites, having dominated recent meetings against the Ankole Lions. In their last five encounters, Vipers have remained unbeaten and claimed four consecutive victories against a Mbarara side battling near the bottom with just 15 points.
Meanwhile, the spotlight later shifts to FUFA Stadium, Kadiba where traditional rivals SC Villa and Express clash in another heated Kampala derby under the floodlights.
Villa are still firmly in the title conversation despite sitting fourth with 34 points. The Jogoos also have a game in hand after their abandoned fixture against Calvary at Midigo, meaning victory on Saturday could further strengthen their push towards the top.
For Express, however, the situation is less comfortable. The Red Eagles have gone five matches without victory and occupy 10th place with 19 points following their 1-1 draw against Maroons last time out.
Earlier in the day, URA FC travel to Bugonga to face Entebbe UPPC at the Fisheries Ground.
The hosts will be chasing a season double over the Tax Collectors after edging the reverse fixture 1-0 at Nakivubo. Entebbe UPPC are eager to recover from their recent 2-0 loss to Kitara and a victory would lift them to 37 points.
URA, on the other hand, arrive encouraged by their first win under head coach Hussein Mbalangu after defeating Mbarara City 2-0 in their previous outing. That result lifted the Tax Collectors to 12th place with 18 points and another positive result could further ease their relegation worries.
At Luzira, Maroons welcome fellow strugglers Buhimba United Saints in a clash that could have significant implications in the battle to avoid the drop.
