How Ugandans abroad performed over the weekend

Ugandans abroad delivered a mix of standout performances, assists and hard-fought minutes across various leagues over the weekend, with several players playing decisive roles for their clubs.

In East Africa, there was plenty of action, particularly in Kenya. Edward Masembe featured as APS Bomet played out a goalless stalemate with Mara Sugar, while Bronson Nsubuga was involved for Shabana in their narrow 2-1 defeat to Gor Mahia. Batambuze Shafik also got minutes for Kakamega Homeboyz in a 1-1 draw with Bandari FC.

Mustafa Kizza made a 46-minute appearance for Nairobi United, though they fell 2-1 to Ulinzi Stars. Elsewhere, Ssetuba James and Samuel Ssenyonjo were part of the AFC Leopards side that secured victory over Tusker, with Denis Iguma turning out for the latter.

In neighboring Tanzania, Allan Okello featured for Young Africans in their 1-1 draw with Mtibwa Sugar, while Akandwanaho Joseph and Tebandeke Charles endured a tough outing as TRA suffered a 0-3 loss to Simba.

Switching to North Africa, Joseph Ochaya stood out in Egypt, playing the full 90 minutes and registering an assist for Arab Contractors in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Petrojet.

In Tunisia, Travis Mutyaba featured as CS Sfaxien edged JS Kairouan 1-0.

Meanwhile, in continental action, Denis Onyango was an unused substitute as Mamelodi Sundowns lost 2-0 to Stade Malien in the CAF Champions League.

In Europe, several Ugandans made notable contributions. In England, Toby Sibbick and Bevis Mugabi both impressed, each providing an assist as Burton Albion and Carlisle United secured wins with Carlisle triumphing 6-2 in emphatic fashion. Nathan Asiimwe remained on the bench as AFC Wimbledon drew 1-1 with Peterborough.

Scotland also saw Ugandan involvement, with Jordan Obita playing full-time in Hibernian’s goalless draw with Motherwell. Uche Mubiru added an assist in Ross County’s 2-2 stalemate with Dunfermline, while Rogers Mato was an unused substitute as Hearts edged Dundee FC 1-0.

In Denmark, Phionah Nabbumba delivered one of the most dominant displays of the weekend, playing 90 minutes in Midtjylland’s 9-0 demolition of Osterbro Women.

Robert Kakeeto also completed 90 minutes for Middelfart despite their 1-0 loss to Hobro, while Moses Opondo featured for Fredericia in their defeat to Copenhagen.

Elsewhere in Europe, Elio Capradossi was an unused substitute as U Cluj secured a 1-0 victory over FC Arges in Romania.

In Asia, Joseph Mpande remained on the bench as PVF-CAND fell 2-1 to Phu Dong Ninh Binh in Vietnam.

Across the Atlantic in the USA, multiple Ugandans were in action. Bobosi Byaruhanga stood out with a full 90-minute performance and an assist for Oakland Roots in their 2-2 draw with Phoenix Rising.

Allan Oyirwoth also played the entire match as New England Revolution II defeated Connecticut 2-0, a game that also featured Ibrahim Kasule and Sserwadda for Connecticut. Sadat Anaku contributed 63 minutes in Hartford Athletic’s 2-1 win over Brooklyn, while Toto Brian Majub played full-time for Atlanta United II in their loss to Crown Legacy.

Edward Kizza made a brief cameo as Indy Eleven secured a 2-1 victory over Detroit, and Fauzia Najjemba was on the bench as Boston Legacy fell 3-0 to Houston Dash.

In Mexico, Sandra Nabweteme came on in the 65th minute for Santos Laguna, but they were beaten 0-2 by Juarez.

Finally, in France, Shadia Nankya featured for 58 minutes as Le Havre battled to a 2-2 draw with Marseille.

From assists in Europe to commanding displays in Africa and the Americas, Ugandan players abroad continue to leave their mark and gain valuable minutes across competitive leagues worldwide.
