Nigerian international Umar Sadiq has expressed his relief and delight after finalising a permanent transfer from Real Sociedad to Valencia in the Spanish top-flight – La Liga.
The move marks a long-awaited return to the Mestalla for the striker, following a successful loan spell during the latter half of the 2024/25 campaign.
The 28-year-old was officially unveiled on Friday, putting pen to paper on a contract that secures his future with Los Che until 2028.
Sadiq’s future has been the subject of intense speculation since the summer of 2025. After becoming a fan favourite during his brief stint at the club, the forward made it clear that a return to Valencia was his top priority.
“I’m very excited and happy. I’ve been waiting since last summer, and finally, I’m here. I’m the happiest guy in the world,” Sadiq told the club’s media. “I wanted to come back here; I did everything I could, and the club made every effort possible. Valencia CF is one of the biggest clubs in Spain—you can see it in the culture and the people. They never abandon the club.”
During his initial six-month loan, Sadiq proved his worth by netting six goals in 19 La Liga appearances. He credited the high expectations of the Valencia faithful as a primary motivator for his return.
“One of the things that brought me back is ambition,” Sadiq explained. “Last season, I saw how much the fans wanted results, and that pressure made me bring out the best in myself. Even though I was only here for half a season, I knew this was the best place for me to show what I can do.”
With the deal now finalised, Valencia fans will be hoping the Nigerian powerhouse can pick up exactly where he left off as the club pushes for a strong finish in the second half of the season.
