Umar Sadiq set to leave Real Sociedad In January

Umar Sadiq is reportedly set to leave Spanish La Liga club Real Sociedad when the January transfer window opens after struggling to find regular playing time this season.

According to transfer expert Ekrem Konur, the striker’s future at the Basque club looks uncertain due to limited playing time on the field, despite being under contract with Sociedad until 2028.

His limited minutes on the pitch, coupled with a relatively high wage packet, are understood to be key factors prompting the club to consider allowing him to leave.

Sadiq’s tenure with Txuri-Urdin has been notably challenging. Soon after his arrival, the 28-year-old suffered a severe long-term injury, which sidelined him for an extended period and undoubtedly hampered his ability to establish himself as a regular starter. Upon his return, the competition for attacking positions within Imanol Alguacil’s squad has intensified, with other forwards consistently being preferred.

The report adds that several Spanish clubs, including Sevilla FC, Valencia, Getafe, and Elche, have shown interest in signing the Super Eagles forward. He enjoyed some success on loan at Valencia last season, scoring 5 goals in 16 LaLiga appearances after joining midway through the 2024-25 campaign.

The 28 year-old joined Real Sociedad in 2022 but has found it difficult to cement a starting role following a long-term injury. He has been limited to two substitute appearances this season, both coming in the last month.

With competition for attacking spots at the club intensifying, a move in January appears to be a strong possibility as he seeks more game time to get back into the setup with the Nigeria national team.
