UNAF U-20: Tunisia set up showdown with Egypt; Morocco complete a perfect tournament

The fourth round of the North Africa U-20 Championship qualifiers for the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations witnessed decisive results. All matches are being hosted at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt. The top two finishers will qualify for the 2025 U-20 AFCON.


Tunisia secures a vital win against Algeria


Tunisia claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over Algeria in a dramatic match that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.


The excitement began in the 76th minute when Tunisia's goalkeeper heroically saved a penalty taken by Algeria. Seconds later, Tunisia launched a swift counter-attack, and Yassine Saber delivered a dangerous cross that Algerian defender Abd Elhameed Naeem inadvertently turned into his own net.


Algeria responded quickly, equalizing in the 81st minute through Islam Abbas. However, Tunisia refused to settle for a draw. In the 96th minute, Amin El-Mahrezi scored a dramatic winner to secure all three points for his team.

This victory elevated Tunisia to 6 points, placing them second in the group standings, while Algeria remained on 2 points, officially ending their hopes of qualification.


Morocco dominates Libya with a four-goal rout


In the other match of the round, Morocco delivered a dominant result, defeating Libya 4-0. The goals were scored by Moaaz Dahhak (27'), Fouad El-Hanash (47'), Ayman Erqiq (53'), and Saad El-Haddad (70').


Morocco's win solidified their position at the top of the group with 10 points, securing their top place in qualifiers for the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. Libya, on the other hand, remains at the bottom of the standings with zero points.

A decisive final round


The final round of the qualifiers promises decisive clash between Egypt and Tunisia.


Egypt, currently in third place with 4 points, must win to secure the second qualification spot. Tunisia, with 6 points, needs only a draw or a victory to advance.


The final round matches are scheduled for Tuesday, November 26, as follows:


Egypt vs. Tunisia: 6:00 PM (Cairo time)


Algeria vs. Libya: 6:00 PM (Cairo time)
