Head coach of Nigeria’s senior male national team Eric Chelle has shifted attention to the final game of the 2025 Unity Cup against Jamaica after dispatching Ghana.
The Super Eagles scored two early goals, the opener from Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers on the 14th minute before Razak Simpson’s own goal nailed the Black Stars six minutes later.
Coventry City forward, Brandon Thomas-Asante scored his debut Ghana goal when he slapped in Ebenezer Annan’s cross in the 70th minutes but that was not enough to save the four time African champions from the claws of defeat.
Coach Eric Chelle, who replaced Jose Peseiro, wants to claim another victory against the Reggae Boys on May 31 at the GTech Community Stadium.
“We just played one game so we will try to prepare for the second game but the reality is that, Jamaica is a great team with great staff, great players and it will be a great game so we will focus on two or three training sessions and then we will see after,” Eric Chelle said after the game.
“My philosophy is I want to make some high pressure on the pitch but the system is very difficult for the players so we need to work and improve that.
“We need to work, we need to improve and the players need to know what I want and I think we made a great first half but the second half the players were tired.
“But the reality is that, my guys I am so proud of them because the fight was difficult but I think we deserve this victory.” The Malian trainer added.
Ghana will now face Trinidad & Tobago in the third-place playoff on Saturday, May 31 while Nigeria meet Jamaica in the final. Jamaica defeated Trinidad and Tobago by 3-2 in the first semi final game.
