Ghana Premier League duo Razak Simpson of Nations FC and Hearts of Oak’s Benjamin Asare have shared their views ahead of the Ghana national team's participation at the Unity Cup in London.

The Black Stars will take part in the four nation tournament that includes Nigeria, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

Ghana will face Nigeria on May 28 in their first game at Brentford FC's Gtech Community Stadium with the winner qualifying to face the victor between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago on May 31.

Razak Simpson, who has been part of Ghana coach Otto Addo’s squad for sometime now, shared some words prior to emplaning to London.

“I will thank coach Otto Addo and his technical team for giving me this platform once again, it’s a dream come true for me to represent my nation. This Unity Cup, personally, is a big move for me so I have to put everything into God’s hands and go all out,” Simpson told Max TV.

When asked about leaving Nations FC at a crucial moment of the Premier League title chase, the sturdy centre back says there are equally good players who can carry the team on their shoulders.

“Oh yes even in my absence they can get the job done, I think they played against Asante Kotoko twice, I wasn’t there but they won and whenever I come for national team duty, they have been playing, they have been scoring so they can do it because they have quality defenders there who can fit in for me and they can do the job perfectly.” He added.

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was left out of the equation as he shared some words ahead of the game. The former Great Olympics shot stopper made his senior debut, keeping two clean sheets against Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March.

“It’s not easy for a local player to earn a call up into the Black Stars and so every match is tough for us so we must psyche ourselves for it because anything can happen so once we have been invited, we have to be worthy representatives,” Asare told Max TV.

Simpson and Asare will be joined by other local players such as Kamaradini Mamudu of Medeama and Kotoko duo Kwame Opoku and Andrews Ntim who is earning a debut call up.

The game will be used as a preparatory exercise ahead of the next 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali in September.
