The opening round of the 2025-26 StarTimes Uganda Premier League concluded last week, but the standings remain incomplete for Vipers SC and Kitara FC following an unresolved fixture between the two sides.
The match, originally scheduled for October last year, was never played, leaving both clubs with fewer games compared to the rest of the league. To date, neither the FUFA Competitions Department nor the UPL Secretariat has issued an official ruling on the fate of the encounter.

Speaking on NBS Sport on Wednesday morning, FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo revealed that the matter has now been handed over to the federation’s judicial bodies, admitting the prolonged uncertainty has not reflected well on the game’s administrators.
“Kitara versus Vipers has become a judicial matter, and the judicial body will decide. But I have told them this case is damaging our image,” Magogo stated.
The controversy dates back to 4th October 2025 when Vipers SC failed to honour their fixture against Kitara FC at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. The Venoms stayed away in protest against a newly introduced league format by FUFA, which was later suspended.
Forty-eight hours before kick-off, Vipers president Lawrence Mulindwa formally notified FUFA and the UPL Secretariat of the club’s decision not to turn up for the match. Kitara FC, however, reported at the venue as scheduled, only to find an empty stadium and no opponents.
Since then, Vipers management has written back to the federation requesting the fixture to be rescheduled. However, emerging reports suggest the club could instead face a forfeiture ruling, along with a possible three-point deduction from their accumulated tally.
Despite the uncertainty, Vipers finished the round top of the table with 36 points, while Kitara FC currently sit fifth on 29 points—positions that could yet change depending on the final judicial outcome.
