After an 18-day recess that stretched through Christmas into the New Year, the StarTimes Uganda Premier League makes a highly anticipated return this Tuesday with Matchday 12 action.
Three fixtures will be on the menu on the first day of the restart, and the spotlight will firmly be on the title race, with both KCCA and Vipers SC in action.
League leaders KCCA will make the short trip from Lugogo to Kiira Road Police Arena to face fourth-placed Police in one of the standout fixtures of the day. The contest pits first against fourth, with only five points separating the two sides.
The Kasasiro Boys will welcome back Charles Lukwago, Shafik Kwikiriza and Ivan Ahimbisibwe, all available for selection and expected to play key roles against a Police side coached by Matia Lule, which will lean heavily on the experience of Said Kyeyune, Deus Bukenya and Umar Kasumba.
Later in the evening at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, Vipers SC will host relegation-threatened Mbarara City. The Venoms have received a timely boost with Allan Okello, Rogers Torach and Hilary Mukundane all back from international duty.
With KCCA playing earlier in the day, Vipers cannot afford any slip-ups if they are to keep pace in the title race and must overcome the Ankole Lions to stay in touch.
Mbarara City, currently third from bottom with 10 points, are desperate for maximum points as they look to move away from the relegation zone.
Elsewhere, league newcomers Buhimba United Saints will host Maroons at Royal Park, Butema, hoping to end a worrying run of form that stretches to over nine matches without a win. Buhimba have collected just one point since their last victory on matchday three and sit on 10 points.
Maroons, who are seventh with 15 points, will be targeting victory to close the gap on sixth-placed Kitara, who are not in action until Wednesday.
