The Uganda Premier League (UPL) Secretariat has reaffirmed that the 2025/26 league campaign will go on as planned, despite growing protests from Vipers SC and sections of fans over the newly introduced league format.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, the UPL emphasized its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the collective development of the game in Uganda.
“The Uganda Premier League remains committed to professionalism, transparency and collective progress. We continue to call upon all member clubs to uphold unity, mutual respect and adherence to the established statutes and decisions endorsed by the collective body,” the statement read.
The Secretariat further assured stakeholders that the ongoing disputes would not derail the competition’s progress.
“The Secretariat assures the football fraternity and all stakeholders that the 2025/26 season will proceed as planned, guided by fairness, integrity and the shared vision of elevating Uganda’s football.”
The latest confirmation comes amid escalating tensions between the league organizers and Vipers SC, who last week announced their withdrawal from the competition. The Venoms expressed dissatisfaction with the new league format and vowed to explore all available football avenues in pursuit of justice.
Their protest culminated on Saturday, 4th October 2025, when Vipers were a no-show for their scheduled double-header fixture against Kitara FC at Namboole Stadium. In solidarity, sections of fans also boycotted the high-profile clash between KCCA FC and SC Villa, further amplifying their discontent with the ongoing situation.
