UPL: Vipers tighten grip at the summit as BUL win

Reigning champions Vipers SC opened a six-point cushion at the top of the table after cruising to a dominant 4-0 victory over Buhimba United Saints on Friday at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Skipper Milton Karisa led by example with a well-taken brace, while midfield duo Karim Watambala and Abubaker Walusimbi were also on target as the Venoms barely broke a sweat against the visitors.

The emphatic win lifted Vipers to 36 points after 14 matches, giving them daylight at the summit despite the lingering uncertainty over the abandoned Kitara fixture, which could still affect the standings.

Entebbe UPPC pulled off one of the shocks of the day

Away in Bombo, BUL FC bounced back strongly from their recent setback to Lugazi, edging UPDF FC 1-0 to continue their upward momentum. It was BUL’s third victory in four outings under head coach Alex Isabirye, a run that has propelled them to seventh on the log with 19 points.

For UPDF, the defeat was a harsh blow, leaving them third from bottom on 11 points after conceding their 10th loss of the campaign.

Meanwhile at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, Entebbe UPPC pulled off one of the shocks of the day by seeing off KCCA FC 1-0 on their own turf.

Ambrose Kigozi’s decisive strike handed Abdallah Mubiru’s side a famous away win, pushing the league newcomers temporarily into second place on 30 points, level with KCCA, who drop to third.

The result also marked KCCA’s first home defeat of the season and underlined Entebbe UPPC’s impressive first-round campaign, which they conclude unbeaten on the road as the league heads into the halfway break.
