UPL: Vipers SC, Kitara eye redemption as matchday 18 delivers high-stakes encounters

Matchday 18 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League rolls on this Tuesday with attention firmly fixed on title contenders Vipers SC and Kitara FC, both eager to rediscover their winning rhythm.

Vipers SC host Lugazi under the lights

At St. Mary’s Stadium, the reigning champions Vipers welcome Lugazi FC in an 8pm kickoff.

The Venoms have seen their once-comfortable cushion trimmed to just two points after dropping four in their last two outings, a slip that allowed KCCA FC to close in following victory at Buhimba.
Against Lugazi, Vipers will be targeting a season double and a chance to stretch the gap at the summit once more.
Creative lynchpin Karim Watambala and forward Milton Karisa are expected to spearhead the charge as the champions seek a strong response on home turf.

Kitara, Entebbe renew rivalry in Butema

Earlier at 4pm East Africa Time (EAT), Kitara FC entertain Entebbe UPPC FC at Royal Park Butema in what promises to be a tense affair. The clash comes just a week after Kitara eliminated Entebbe UPPC from the Stanbic Uganda Cup at the same venue.

However, the league presents a different narrative. The Hoima-based side suffered a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture in Bugonga and will be desperate to exact revenge while keeping pace in the title race.
Victory would temporarily propel Kitara to the top of the standings at least until Vipers play later in the evening.
Yet, they face a side brimming with resilience. Entebbe UPPC are unbeaten in their last nine league matches and boast an impressive defensive record, conceding just once in ten outings. Sitting two points behind Kitara, they could leapfrog their hosts with a statement win away from home.

NEC favourites against struggling UPDF

In Lugogo, NEC FC host UPDF FC at MTN Omondi Stadium (8pm EAT) in a fixture mirroring their earlier Uganda Cup Round of 32 meeting.
NEC remain unbeaten in 2026 and will head into the encounter as favourites. UPDF, meanwhile, are locked in a relegation battle and sit second from bottom, making this clash crucial for survival ambitions.

Police, BUL square off in Kamwokya

Elsewhere at Kiira Road Police Arena, Police FC lock horns with BUL FC (4pm EAT). Police, sixth on 32 points, were held in their previous outing and will aim to consolidate their top-half position. BUL, currently eighth with 20 points, are searching for their first win in three matches and a chance to climb further up the standings.
