UPL: Vipers SC power past BUL under the lights as matchday ten concludes

Vipers SC delivered an assured second-half performance to overcome BUL FC 3–1 on Saturday night at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, a result that lifts the defending champions to second place on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table.

After a cagey and goalless opening 45 minutes, the Venoms returned from the break with renewed intensity.

Enock Ssebagala struck first in the 48th minute, calmly finishing to hand the hosts a deserved lead. BUL responded positively and briefly threatened a comeback when Jerome Kirya restored parity seven minutes later.

That equaliser, however, only sparked Vipers into greater control. Abdul Karim Watambala converted from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute before Usama Arafat added the third just two minutes later, effectively killing off the contest and sealing Vipers’ sixth victory of the campaign.

Despite being without several Ugandan internationals, Vipers managed the game with maturity to halt a run of consecutive draws.

The win moves them onto 21 points, just two behind leaders KCCA FC, who have played a game more. For BUL, the defeat extended their winless run to five matches. They remain 12th on the standings with 10 points after 10 games.

Earlier in the day, Calvary FC and Mbarara City FC shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw at the Midigo Primary School Playground in Yumbe. In a meeting between two sides battling to climb away from the bottom, Calvary took the lead in the 55th minute when Ibrahim Dada converted from the penalty spot.

Mbarara City responded nine minutes later, drawing level through an unfortunate own goal by Stephen Oriokot.

Both teams pushed for a late winner but were forced to settle for a point apiece, leaving Mbarara City on seven points and Calvary second from bottom on three.

The two results brought Matchday Ten to a close, with the title race tightening at the summit and the relegation battle growing fiercer at the foot of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table.
