UPL: Vipers, Villa chasing wins to keep pace with leaders KCCA FC

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League resumes on Wednesday with four key fixtures across the country, as title contenders SC Villa and Vipers SC respond to pressure following Tuesday victories for leaders KCCA FC and Police FC.

Champions Vipers SC are first in the spotlight with a tricky away trip to Najjembe to face Lugazi FC. Sitting joint second and five points adrift of KCCA, the Venoms know only a win will keep them firmly in the title race. They arrive in confident mood, unbeaten in nine matches and fresh from a commanding 3-1 victory over BUL FC.

Although Allan Okello, Hilary Mukundane and Rogers Torach remain away on national duty, Vipers still boast enough depth to get the job done against a Lugazi side struggling in 13th place with 10 points.

URA FC will make journey to Kamwenge to face Mbarara City FC

Later in the evening, record champions SC Villa host newcomers Calvary FC under the lights at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba. The Jogoos will be clear favourites against a Calvary side rooted to the bottom of the table, still searching for their first win after collecting three draws this season.

Villa welcome back Kato Ssemayange and Sula Matovu from suspension but will miss Reagan Mpande and David Owori, both away with the Uganda Cranes in Morocco. Currently fourth on 20 points, Villa could climb as high as second if results elsewhere go their way.

Away from the title race, Express FC travel to Luzira to face Maroons FC in a clash between two sides looking to recover from recent setbacks. Express are keen to bounce back after a 2-0 defeat to Entebbe UPPC, while Maroons suffered an identical scoreline loss to Kitara FC in their previous outing.

Meanwhile, URA FC make the journey to Kamwenge for a date with Mbarara City FC at Rwamwanja Stadium. The Tax Collectors will be eager to pick up maximum points on the road as they continue their push up the table.

The round of fixtures will conclude on Thursday, when Entebbe UPPC host Kitara FC at Bugonga Fisheries Ground in Entebbe.
