
After extending his contract at New York Red Bulls II that will keep him at the club for two-years in the MLS NEXT Pro through 2026, Uganda Cranes midfielder Steven Sserwadda has expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to continue his development with Red Bulls II while also training with the senior team during preseason.
In an interview with Pan-Africa Football, Sserwada commented:
“I have to work hard at the club throughout the season and I thank the New York Red Bulls senior team for the opportunity to have me train with them during this preseason. It’s a brilliant experience that will help me a lot while with Red Bulls II. It really shows the trust they have in me and all I can do to pay back is by playing well and help the club get positive results alongside my teammates.”
Since joining Red Bulls II, Sserwadda has been a key player making 41 appearances while scoring four goals and providing two assists.
His first MLS NEXT Pro goal came against Philadelphia Union II on April 21, 2024 while he registered his first assist on September 1, 2024 against Carolina Core FC. He debuted for the team in the USL Championship on October 16, 2021 against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
The Kampala-born midfielder has also featured for the New York Red Bulls’ first team before, making two appearances and logging 27 minutes.
He made his MLS debut on June 30, 2022 against Atlanta United FC under a short-term agreement from Red Bulls II. That year he also had the opportunity to feature as a substitute against FC Barcelona in a friendly.
Internationally, Sserwadda has earned four senior caps for Uganda, playing 210 minutes since his debut on March 25, 2022 against Tajikistan. At youth level, he played a crucial role in Uganda’s run to the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations final, scoring twice in the tournament.
Before moving to the U.S., Sserwadda played for Kampala Capital City Authority FC (KCCA FC) in the Ugandan Premier League where he won the league title, Uganda Cup and CECAFA Clubs Cup.
